The Ceramic Pottery program at UNC Asheville offers high school students a week-long immersive experience in the art of ceramics. Designed for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, this residential pre-college program combines hands-on learning with creative exploration in a professional ceramics studio. Program Highlights Participants will dive into the world of ceramic arts through a variety of techniques and projects: Wheel-Throwing & Coil Building: Create functional vessels like bowls, mugs, and vases. Underglaze Painting: Learn to decorate pottery with vibrant colors and intricate designs. Plate & Bowl Formation: Use rolling and carving techniques to shape plates and shallow bowls. Studio Practice: Work in a professional ceramics studio under the guidance of experienced instructors. Take Home Your Creations: Bring your finished pieces home as lasting memories of your artistic journey. This program is open to all skill levels, making it accessible for beginners and experienced artists alike. Daily Schedule A typical day includes: Morning: Hands-on studio sessions focused on specific techniques like wheel-throwing or carving. Program Details Cost: $1,680 (includes lodging, meals, course materials, activities, and excursions) Eligibility: Open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors Location: UNC Asheville campus A $500 deposit is required upon registration, with the remaining balance due by May 1, 2024.
